Swimming on
the Opal Coast coast is not without dangers, especially because
of the "baïnes" (locally known as "bâches") and the waves that
can easily surprise unwary bathers.
To avoid any risk, it's important to obey the signs and safety
instructions, and to use the beach areas supervised by
lifeguards in season.
Remember to
check the weather conditions for the day before going to the
beach :
You should
also check the tide times (PM: high tide - BM: low tide) :
See the 6-day tide
table...
For safe swimming : Choose
supervised bathing areas where rescue teams can intervene
quickly.
Keep an eye on your children at all times, and always stay
with them when they are playing at the water's edge or in the
water.
Beware of your physical condition : don't go swimming if you
feel unwell (tired, ill, shivering) and don't overestimate your
swimming ability.
An
attentive swimmer is a safe swimmer : warn someone close to
you before you go swimming, follow the safety instructions given
by the swimming flags, don't spend too much time in the sun and
enter the water gradually, don't drink alcohol before swimming,
etc.
